To get a start in international trade a person must have either some kind of education or some kind of experience. For me I had a business degree and started my own company do small project work. I got into international work thanks to a client request to represent them at a trade show in the States. My international trade experience grew from that, but when I realised how complicated international trade is, I sought out the experts and FITT and the CITP kept coming up. I took the courses at UPEI and they were fantistic. I know of the schools you are talking about in Vancouver and know that most of those students are NOT getting certified like me because they can't. But they are taking the same international trade courses I did and hopefully for them, that will be their start. A person has to start somewhere to learn.</p> <p>The CITP designation is not for everyone, so you are equally right that a buyer should beware...but neither is the CMA designation for everyone. For me, it's made a big difference, but I get out of it what I put into it...which is a lot. There are dozens of these designations in Canada so you have to choose the one that will best serve you. That's the beauty of choice. I heard the same "pitch" from the FITT folks, as I've heard from other professional associations.
